- COBRA Course
This course will give you an introduction into the
Consolidates Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985
(COBRA). We will talk about COBRA basics such as: this law
provides that virtually all employers who sponsor group
health plnas must permit covered persons who lose coverage
under the plan, as a result of certain events, to elect to
continue their coverage, for a specific period of time on
self-pay basis. We will explain the threats and the proper
administration of COBRA because the laws are changing constantly
due to legislative changes and case law developments. While
COBRA is simple in its aim, the details of the law are
extremely complex. We will also share where to go for more
information.
- The Practical COBRA - The Life of Martha Sewart
This course will review the life of an employee encountering a multitude
of COBRA events in the course of her career, what her employers have to
do to remian in compliance, and what pitfalls agents can get into by not
properly advising their clients. The impact of new COBRA regulations
is illustrated in this practical overview.
- COBRA and the ARRA of 2009 - Get Compliant!
This course covers the changes of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)
of 2009 and aims at helping you be in compliance. The course outlines COBRA and the
ARRA individually, including their history and intent. We will also discuss
assistance eligible participants, qualified beneficiaries, involuntary termination and
premium assistance.
- COBRA in HRAs
Regulations regarding COBRA in HRAs are vague and confusing. The
regulations discuss the need for actuarial calculations, but don't
specify how to apply the rules. Most benefit professionals are forced
to create formulas that will meet the definition. There is a current
body of thought and now the IRS is allowing "any reasonable approach."
However, what does reasonable approach mean? We will explore this and
allow the listener to use best practices to meet the rules for COBRA
in HRAs

- Consumerism in Health Care, HRAs/HSAs/FSAs
This seminar will assist you in understanding the new tools available to us
in crafting a health benefit strategy over time, what has fostered the
consumerism movement in health care, what the current Administration is
pushing or not pushing in its efforts to launch HRAs and HSAs, what direction
the Treasury Department regulations are taking us and why, how to best apply
these tools and health FSAs, traps to watch out for, how to best apply these
tools in health care benefits, and what direction this is all going. A review
of proposed legislation that is in the works to make HSAs more attractive, and
that will allow better coordination amongst FSAs, HRAs and HSAs is also discussed.
- ERISA Course
This course covers the principal provisions of the Employee
Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), and relevant court
opinions and administrative regulations/rulings pertaining to health
and welfare plans. The emphasis is on what a group insurance agent
needs to know about ERISA.
- Flexible Employee Benefits
This course will traverse the path of flexible employee benefits; from where
they come from, where they have gone and where they are going. The path will
start with an overview of cafeteria plans and flexible spending accounts and
how they form the basis for most flexible benefit options. It will delve into
the history behind cafeteria plans and how that has formed them into what they
are today. The next section the path will encounter is Defined Contribution.
During this portion the concept will be explained, it will also show the driving
forces behind the defined contribution model and how these plans can range from
simple to complex all the while using the cafeteria plan model as their core.
The path will then lead to Health Care Reimbursement Arrangements which as the
course will show have the potential to revolutionize the flexible benefit industry
as it is known today. The course will explain what Health Reimbursement Arrangements
are, who can use them, and how they can be tied in with Defined Contribution and
cafeteria plans to be the most effective. The last portion covered, technology, will
be the vehicle that will carry agents over the path and into the future. We will
discuss how technology can be used to improve and differentiate your business.
Included in this discussion will be the standards, features, and risks you should be
aware of. Upon completion of this course the agent wil have a better understanding of
the future of flexible benefits and how technology can be used for the betterment
of the industry.
- Flex Plans/Debit Cards
This course will cover Section 125 Cafeteria Plan basic requirements,
taxation issues and permitted benefits. We'll also provide informations
on using the Debit Card successfully, claims and security issues.

- The Practical FMLA Course
This course will cover the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993. It will go over
definitions, purposes and general protections. This course is designed to educate
and advise agents on the basic requirements of FMLA, its affect on their client
businesses, and upon the coverage that is in effect during leave taken.
- HRA Course
This course will introduce you to Health Reimbursement Arrangements. It will cover:
what they are, where they came from, how they can be used, and how they're going to
going to change the benefit industry. The course will explain what benefits can be
offered, who can be covered and how HRAs relate and can be used in conjunction with
Section 125 and Section 105 plans.

- HSA Course
Covers what a Health Savings Account is and how they operate. Course will also cover
participation requirements, funding, distributions, trustee requirements, HSAs, and
flex plans.
- Landmines of HSAs/HRAs/FSAs
The purpose of this course is to give you the knowledge of the best practices relating
to implementation of employee benefit plans that are qualified in nature. Following
best practices can create credibility, protect your E & O insurance, and generate sales.
- Legal and Legislative Updates Affecting Employee Benefits
This course will review state and federal cases that are benefits relevant along with
recent revenue rulings and other changes in the laws that are affecting benefits.
Overview of new debit card IIAS system or updates to the IIAS system for debit cards
and how it affects benefits will also be reviewed.
- PEO Courses for Agents
This course is designed to educate and advise agents to the possible loss of business
to Professional Employer Organizations. We will review what Professional Employer
Organizations are, how they are growing, and what they can mean to the Employee
Benefits Professional. We'll review the background and growth of the PEO industry,
